Good News: Larry Johnson Practices; Bad News: He’s a $45M Practice Squad Player

Filed under: Chiefs, AFC West, NFL FansTough week for Chiefs running back Larry Johnson. First he was accused of threatening to kill some dude at a club, then he admitted that he was “disgusted” by his actions, and finally he was charged with simple assault.

Naturally, the conversation turned to whether the 2003 first-round pick would even play again this season, what with all the off-field issues he apparently needs to work through. Well, there’s some good news on that front: Johnson practiced with the team yesterday. Sort of. [Johnson] returned to practice on Wednesday. Of course, the downside was that he was practicing on the scout team. Funny, imagine if somebody told you at the beginning of last year that Earnest Graham would be a better fantasy option than Johnson. And not only that, Johnson would be playing Graham on the scout team prior to the Chiefs’ game against the Buccaneers. God, that’s demoralizing. And this, from Rotoworld.com, probably doesn’t help: “Ah, a $45 million player on the scout team with Ingle Martin IV, John Paul Foschi, and Tyler Thigpen. Oh wait, Thigpen starts for this team. Nevermind.”

If you’re looking to feel worse about being a Chiefs fan, now seems like the perfect time to bring this up: Pittsburgh swapped 2003 first-round picks with Kansas City to grab Troy Polamalu. You think he might help the secondary?
