Chiefs Larry Johnson Could Face Longer Supsension if Convicted of Evil-Doing

Larry Johnson is disgusted with himself for spitting alcohol in a woman’s face and threatening to kill her boyfriend at an area Kansas City club. He was later booked for simple assault, found himself running the scout team, and the team eventually suspended for one game.

Turns out, Johnson could have more than a week to reevaluate his station in life because if he’s found guilty in on or both of his back-to-back December court appearances, the NFL could hand down a longer suspension.

Tyler Thigpen Is the Future in Kansas City
by @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

Filed under: Chiefs, AFC WestThis was supposed to be Brodie Croyle’s team. The Chiefs selected him in the third round of the 2006 draft, and between clipboard duty and recovering from various ailments, the former Alabama star never could stay healthy long enough to make a case for why he was the long-term answer at quarterback.

Instead, it’s become … wait, what? Tyler Thigpen’s gig?

Yep, that’s right, former Chanticleer and Vikings seventh-round pick is the future in Kansas City. Well, for now, anyway. Which is why head coach Herm Edwards isn’t quite ready to crown his ass: “Let’s don’t anoint him … Don’t put so much pressure on this poor guy. He went from Atlanta, where everybody was going, ‘Whoa, whoa,’ and all of a sudden he plays this game, his second start, he plays good. … He’s still learning. He has to keep playing, keep growing.” Two thoughts: it’s a good thing Jim Colletto isn’t mentoring this guy, and maybe the Vikings shoulda kept him on the roster. I’m not saying he’s the next Tony Romo, Pseudo-Savior!, but given how things are playing out in Minnesota, you can never have enough arms around when the current starter is 37 years old, and the franchise quarterback is currently running the scout team.

If Thigpen does work out, it’ll allow the Chiefs to focus on shoring up their many other deficiencies, which would be nice. Of course, if he bombs over the final nine weeks then, well, we’ll probably be talking about which quarterback the team will take with their top-5 first-round pick next April.

Larry Johnson Watches His Agent Quit and the NFL Suspend Him For One Game

Filed under: Chiefs, AFC WestThe NFL has announced they are suspending Kansas City running back Larry Johnson for one game for violating the league’s conduct policy. The NFL mandated suspension will be be served next week, Week 10.

The Chiefs have already announced they would deactivate Johnson for this weekend’s game against Tampa Bay. He had been deactivated the previous two weeks as well. All this stems from a simple assault charge he picked up for spitting a drink in a woman’s face.

The suspension is without pay and will be served on the Chiefs meeting with the San Diego Chargers on November 9. He will not be allowed on the team’s premises until the following day. “Johnson has previously violated the NFL Personal Conduct Policy and has since been involved in multiple incidents in which law enforcement was required to intervene,” the NFL announced in announcing the suspension. “Johnson also was informed that upon the disposition of two pending law enforcement matters he faces the possibility of additional disciplinary action.”The other sad-sack news for Mr. Johnson is the resignation of his agent.

Good News: Larry Johnson Practices; Bad News: He’s a $45M Practice Squad Player
by @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

Oct 30th 2008 1:30PM by Ryan Wilson (author feed)
Filed under: Chiefs, AFC West, NFL FansTough week for Chiefs running back Larry Johnson. First he was accused of threatening to kill some dude at a club, then he admitted that he was “disgusted” by his actions, and finally he was charged with simple assault.

Naturally, the conversation turned to whether the 2003 first-round pick would even play again this season, what with all the off-field issues he apparently needs to work through. Well, there’s some good news on that front: Johnson practiced with the team yesterday. Sort of. [Johnson] returned to practice on Wednesday. Of course, the downside was that he was practicing on the scout team. Funny, imagine if somebody told you at the beginning of last year that Earnest Graham would be a better fantasy option than Johnson. And not only that, Johnson would be playing Graham on the scout team prior to the Chiefs’ game against the Buccaneers. God, that’s demoralizing. And this, from Rotoworld.com, probably doesn’t help: “Ah, a $45 million player on the scout team with Ingle Martin IV, John Paul Foschi, and Tyler Thigpen. Oh wait, Thigpen starts for this team. Nevermind.”

If you’re looking to feel worse about being a Chiefs fan, now seems like the perfect time to bring this up: Pittsburgh swapped 2003 first-round picks with Kansas City to grab Troy Polamalu. You think he might help the secondary?

Between The Lines: Alan Faneca Takes Glenn Dorsey to School

When Glenn Dorsey came out of college last year, he was considered the best interior defensive line in the draft, a havoc-creating defensive tackle who would not only create plays of his own, but also require enough attention to help make everyone else on the defensive line better.

The scouting reports were effusive in their praise:
Dorsey’s dominance should go a long way toward helping Kansas City rebuild its defense. He should command double-teams and the Chiefs become better up the middle instantly. There were some concerns about problems with Dorsey’s tibia stress fracture, which may have been the reason he was still on the board at this point. His best traits are outstanding agility and a great motor. The Chiefs picked Dorsey with the No. 5 pick. Since many expected Dorsey to go even higher, the Chiefs were hailed for getting a steal. While that was the scouting report coming out of Louisiana State, it’s hard to see much of that when you watch Dorsey against the Jets. Dorsey was facing a tough matchup, as Jets left guard Alan Faneca is one of the best guards in the league. But if this was a heavyweight fight between Dorsey and Faenca, it would have been called early in the first quarter.

Larry Johnson Booked For Simple Assault

Filed under: Chiefs, AFC NorthFirst a police report, then an apology, and now the charge for Chiefs running back Larry Johnson.

Johnson, 28, was charged with simple assault for spitting a drink in a women’s face after allegedly threatening to kill her boyfriend and had to post $500 bail, which I’m assuming he doesn’t have to pull out of his savings.
Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said Johnson was charged Monday and turned himself in, later being released after posting a $500 bond. Snapp said the incident occurred on Oct. 10 at a Kansas City nightclub.
Since there was no weapon involved, Johnson’s charge was lessened to simple assault, a misdemeanor.Continue Reading

Daunte Culpepper Cancels Trip to Kansas City Because Of Better Opportunity
by @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

Oct 28th 2008 1:34AM by Sportz Assassin (author feed)
Filed under: Chiefs, AFC West, NFL Free AgencFox Sports’ Jay Glazer is reporting that retired/free agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper cancelled his trip to Kansas City to become the Chiefs new QB.Last week, Culpepper threw out a completely outrageous contract request to teams vying for his services. Those teams balked at giving him a figure for next year that he was hoping to reach in the eight figures. On Friday, he came down from that preposterous request and agreed to meet with the Chiefs on Tuesday for a physical and face-to-face negotiations.

But one day before he was to meet for a chance to get back into the NFL, Culpepper has turned down yet another odd path.

FOXSports.com has learned that Culpepper told the Chiefs on Monday that he has a better opportunity with another team and was thus going to cancel his Tuesday visit. It’s not clear which team, if any, he was referring to, but that was the last straw for the Chiefs as they have now completely moved on.So, is this a bluff or legit? Remember that Culpepper is his own agent so he could be trying to milk the most out of the Chiefs. Doing the whole “I found a better deal down the street” bluff won’t work on a team that isn’t looking for anything more than a guy to finish out the string and then move on.

I don’t believe the better opportunity jive either. Dude has been looking for a job for nearly a year and the only team that has bitten is the lowly Chiefs. Who else could possibly want him? The only thoughts could be the Cowboys, Lions or Bengals.

Jets 28, Chiefs 24: Did Brett Favre Call the Chiefs Too?
by @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

Oct 26th 2008 4:25PM by Josh Alper (author feed)
Filed under: Chiefs, Jets, AFC East, AFC WestPerhaps Brett Favre should start trying to learn the Jets offense instead of helping other teams bone up on the Packers.

Don’t be fooled by sycophantic announcers who say Favre pulled out another last-second victory with a gutsy touchdown pass to Laveranues Coles. He was outplayed by Tyler Thigpen, threw an interception that should have been a game-breaker in the fourth quarter, and looked less like a Hall-of-Famer than a should-be CFLer.

Not that he should be singled out. This was an abysmal performance by the Jets and it’s only the weakness of the Chiefs that allowed them to hang around long enough to steal a win. If Derrick Johnson doesn’t drop an interception and probable touchdown in the third quarter, the Jets are finished. If the Chiefs offense is able to pick up one first down in the fourth quarter, the Jets are finished. Continue Reading

Broncos Will Pass on Culpepper, Go With Practice Squad QB as Cutler’s Backup
by @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

Oct 25th 2008 12:45PM by Ryan Wilson (author feed)
Filed under: Bengals, Broncos, Chiefs, NFL RumorsOn Thursday, Ciskie pointed out that Daunte Culpepper had decided to pull a “Favre” and unretire. Perhaps the former Vikings first-round pick drew inspiration for his decision based on the gallingly abysmal performances of Cincy’s Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kansas City’s Tyler Thigpen, as well as the news that Denver had placed Jay Cutler’s backup, Patrick Ramsey, on injured reserve.

I think most rational people can agree that Culpepper — even the one who limped around Miami and Oakland in recent seasons — would be an upgrade over Fitzpatrick, Thigpen and Ramsey, but there is the whole issue of learning an entirely new offense midway through the season, not to mention any lingering concerns about Culpepper’s health.

Which might explain why Denver has decided to take a pass:Continue Reading

Road Chalk and Alaskan Pipelines: Week 8

I wonder when I’ll finally break through and sniff a double digit win week? Hmm. Maybe this week? Nah. Probably not. The season record now stands at a “creeping-on-a-comeback” 47-53-1 record. And somehow I forgot to post my locks. They will be there this week and indicated by ** some sort of thing. Onto the picks.

The Falcons are a bizarre story — I know they’re winning but I watched the Panthers beat them and … well, I just don’t think they’re as good as their record. I also think the Eagles are better than their record. So I’ll take the ridiculous nine points.

What a stout freaking line that is, and I suppose it’s indicative of just how crappy the Chiefs are; the Jets, if you recall, did actually just lose to the Raiders. Which, while embarrassing enough, still isn’t as bad as having to start Tyler Thigpen at quarterback. This really will be a true test of Herm Edwards’ crappiness.

Ummm, did I miss something? Because Jim Haslett is undefeated this season. Oh right. I didn’t watch any football Monday night. That’s why they’re so heavily favored. Still, Haslett.

Well, that’s just not enough. What a slap in the face to the Buffalo Bills … yoooooooour 2008 AFC Champions*.
