Gonzalez's ambition Super
For Tony Gonzalez, his trade to the Falcons is about one thing.

quot;I'm here for one reason, and that's to win a Super Bowl,quot; Gonzalez said on Friday. quot;I haven't won a playoff game in my whole career, and that's something I'm going to make sure isn't the end for me. I want to come here, go to the playoffs, win playoff games and go to the Super Bowl.quot;

Gonzalez was acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday. The Falcons sent their second-round pick in the 2010 draft to the Chiefs.

Gonzalez, 33, is the all-time NFL leader in receptions (916), yardage (10,940) and touchdowns (76) for a tight end. He has made the past 10 straight Pro Bowl and has been selected to the All-Pro team five times.

The Falcons have been looking to upgrade at tight end since cutting Alge Crumpler in the February before the 2008 season.

The Falcons knew Ben Hartsock, a free-agent signee last season, was more of a blocker. They added Justin Peelle before the start of the season.

Last season, the Falcons threw 434 passes, but only 30 (6.9 percent) were intended for a tight end. Peelle, Hartsock and Jason Rader combined for 19 catches.

Adding Gonzalez will help the Falcons diversify their passing attack.

Wide receiver Roddy White, who made the Pro Bowl last season, was the main target.

Quarterback Matt Ryan threw 148 of 434 (34 percent) passes his way. He caught 88 passes for 1,382 yards.

quot;This is going to be something special, I believe,quot; Gonzalez said. quot;I'm looking forward to it.quot;

Gonzalez said that he can't wait for the team's mini-camp on May 9-10.

quot;I called Matt Ryan yesterday just to tell him how excited I was,quot; Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez is thinking about the possibilities, with Ryan at the controls and White, wide receiver Michael Jenkins and running back Michael Turner all on the same offense.

quot;If you double-team somebody or stack the box, somebody is going to get open,quot; Gonzalez said. quot;Do I think I'll catch 100 balls? I don't think I have to. It's not about going out there and breaking all of these records.

quot;It's about moving the chains.quot;

Several veterans have left the team through free agency, and the Falcons hope that Gonzalez will provide some leadership.

quot;I think everyone realizes that we need to continue to bring in veteran leadership,quot; Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. quot;It's something that we feel strong about.quot;

The Falcons will pick up Gonzalez's contract from the Chiefs, which gives the tight end a chance to earn $14.25 million over the next three seasons.

Gonzalez just completed the second year of a five-year, $35 million contract extension that he signed with the Chiefs in January 2007.

He received $17.5 million in guaranteed money in the deal. He has base salaries --- which are not guaranteed ? of $4 million in 2009, $4.5 million in 2010 and $5.75 million in 2011.

His salary cap numbers are $6.5 million in 2009, $7 million in 2010 and $8.25 million in 2011.
