--The Chiefs' return to training camp in Missouri in 2010 took a step closer to reality when the St. Joseph, Mo., city council voted to contribute $2.25 million to building an indoor workout center at Missouri Western University.

The Chiefs will spend the upcoming training camp in the relatively cooler climate of River Falls, Wis., where they have trained since 1991.

The building of an indoor facility was seen as all-but-essential before the Chiefs returned to the often extreme summer temperatures of Missouri. St. Joseph is located some 45 miles north of the KC Metro Area.

The indoor facility the Chiefs hope to get has a projected cost of $15.7 million. The state of Missouri has approved issuing $10 million in tax credit, the county has approved a $1.5 million contribution and the university is chipping in some $1.2 million, all in the hope of bettering facilities for students and making St. Joe a tourism destination for Chiefs fans.

"This is a turning point in our university's history," said Western president Robert Vartabedian.

--As of the time he departed for the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, new Chiefs coach Todd Haley had still not talked to disgruntled running back Larry Johnson, who wants out of Kansas City. But new team GM Scott Pioli indicated LJ may well remain a member of the team.

"There is no situation," Pioli told the NFL Network. "He's a Chief and we're moving forward."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Sometimes veterans have a comfort zone and they want things to be a certain way. When you come in to a new situation, come in to a club that was 2-14, some things are clearly going to have to change. Hopefully the veterans who are there are going to be receptive to the change." -- Scott Pioli, on veteran TE Tony Gonzalez's suggestion that he should be traded, preferably to a contender, so that the Chiefs can continue rebuilding through additional draft picks.
