Kansas City will open the preseason with a home game against Houston. Their road assignment the following week could be opportune, as they will play at Minnesota as the same time they break their final training camp in nearby River Falls, Wis., a commuter community of the Twin Cities.

The Chiefs will host Seattle in the third game before finishing the preseason with the traditional Governor's Cup game against the Rams in St. Louis.

--It was learned last week that new quarterback Matt Cassel, who always wore jersey No. 16, will wear No. 7 in his time in Kansas City. No. 16 is the retired jersey of Chiefs Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson.

--New acquisition Bobby Engram, meeting with the Kansas City media Thursday, insisted that he's playing younger than his 36-year age would indicate.

"My tank is at least three-quarters full," he said with a chuckle. "That's the way I view life. My thing is that time is not linear; people age at different rates and speeds.

"I'm not naive, though. I know people look at a guy and say, he's this age, you get diminishing returns. But I know my commitment to working out, to wellness levels and nutrition and lifestyle, faith. There are things you can do to offset age.

"I've still got things I want to accomplish."
