--Former cornerback Emmett Thomas, who on Aug. 3 will become the ninth member of the Chiefs organization (six players, owner Lamar Hunt and coach Hank Stram) to inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will have his No. 18 jersey retired and receive his Hall of Fame ring during a ceremony Oct. 19 before Kansas City's game with Tennessee.
Thomas, who played 13 seasons in Kansas City from 1966-78, was a part of both of the Chiefs' Super Bowl teams. He was one of two selections made by the Hall of Fame's Senior's Committee. He led the NFL in interceptions with a team record 12 in 1974 after leading the old AFL in picks with nine in the 1969 Super Bowl championship season.
Thomas will become the ninth Chiefs player to have his number retired. The others are K Jan Stenerud (3), QB Len Dawson (16), RB Abner Haynes (28), RB Stone Johnson (33), RB Mack Lee Hill (36), LB Willie Lanier (63), LB Bobby Bell (78) and DT Buck Buchanan (86).
Stenerud, Dawson, Lanier, Bell and Buchanan also are members of the Hall of Fame, as is Oakland and KC running back Marcus Allen.
