Kansas City Chiefs Notes, Quotes 2008-10-16
--The Chiefs have something of a history in stopping long winning streaks, such as the Titans' current eight-game regular-game winning streak dating back to last Dec. 16's win over the Chiefs.

On 13 occasions since 1995, the Chiefs have broken an opponent's winning streak of three or more games at Arrowhead. Most recently, Kansas City broke Denver's four-game winning streak with a 33-19 upset of the Broncos on Sept. 28 at Arrowhead.

In 1993, the Houston Oilers had a franchise-record 11-game winning streak that Joe Montana and the Chiefs broke in the second round of the playoffs. That also was the last playoff game the Chiefs won.

--Coach Herm Edwards, on the way Tony Gonzalez handled himself in dealing with the aftermath of the failed trade talks he asked the Chiefs to initiate.

"I think this team is better off with Tony Gonzalez. It worked out good for us that he's still here.

"I've been in this league long enough to understand where he is, mentally and emotionally. We talked about that, and I understand. I don't hold that against him, and I don't think players hold that against him. I thought how he handled it was important to the young guys, because it taught them something. There are players in that locker room who someday might have to handle the same thing, and they saw how a pro handles it. It's just business, and you don't mix the business part of it with the team."

--Veteran offensive captain Brian Waters was confident that Gonzalez would provide no "distraction" once his status was decided after Tuesday.

"Look, I know people want to think we've got this big commotion and controversy, but we don't," he said before the trade deadline. "Whatever happens, we've still got to play Sunday.

"No way anybody in this room believes that Tony Gonzalez, if he was unhappy that (a trade) did not happen, would not perform at his best," Waters said before adding with a chuckle, "He's too vain as a football player not to perform his best."

BY THE NUMBERS: 11.2 -- Average points scored against Tennessee in five games.

13.0 -- Average points scored by Kansas City in four games.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "Guess what -- they're learning what this game is about. This is a part of the business they probably didn't know anything about. But now they do." -- A bemused Brian Waters, on the unwitting lesson the Tony Gonzalez trade speculation would impart on the Chiefs' 15 rookies.
