TEAM NEEDS/OFFSEASON STRATEGY
The Chiefs continue to make coaching acquisitions.
The most recent adds to coach Todd Haley's first staff as a head coach are Ronnie Bradford, who worked eight seasons at Denver, most recently with defensive backs. He likely will be an assistant secondary coach in Kansas City.
Nick Sirianni will join the staff as an offensive quality control after spending his last year seasons as a receivers coach at Indiana University in Pennsylvania.
TEAM NEEDS
1. Receivers: Having eliminated a team need at quarterback with the acquisition of young starter Matt Cassel from New England, Kansas City's most pressing need on offense now is in the receiving corps. Always dependable Tony Gonzalez continues to express interest in moving on, and third-year man Dwayne Bowe is the only other consistent receiving threat.
2. Pass rushers/linebackers: Getting Mike Vrabel in the Cassel trade with New England is a big help, especially if the Chiefs make the transition to the 3-4 defense most people are expecting. But they still lack pass rushers, both on the defensive line and the linebacking corps, and likely will be looking hardest at linebackers with pass rushing upside.
3. Offensive line. Brian Waters' recent suggestion that he wouldn't mind moving on likely will be ignored by management, as the Chiefs are in real trouble if he leaves. Waters is a dependable force on the right side, especially given that the club wants to upgrade at right tackle.
