Kansas City Chiefs Strategy and Personnel 2008-10-10
PLAYER PERSONNEL NOTES

--QB Brodie Croyle will start for the Chiefs when they come off their bye and play their next game on Oct. 19 against Tennessee. Croyle separated his shoulder in the season opener on Sept. 7. "He's ready to go," coach Herm Edwards said.

--LT Branden Albert hopes to return to practice next week after the bye and try to get ready for the Oct. 19 game with Tennessee at Arrowhead. Albert, who was playing well at left tackle in the first five games of his rookie season, dislocated an elbow in the first half of the Denver win.

--T Herb Taylor, a second-year player who held his own against Carolina's Julius Peppers (giving up only one sack) as the replacement for injured LT Branden Albert, likely will continue to be a swing-tackle backup rather than move immediately to the right tackle spot when Albert is ready to return. Coach Herm Edwards said the Chiefs would prefer to keep veteran Damion McIntosh at the starting RT spot, even though he is struggling in his first season at the position.

--RB Larry Johnson, despite being held to just two yards on seven carries in the shutout loss to Carolina, still leads the AFC in rushing and is fifth overall with 417 yards, almost half that total (198) coming in the Chiefs' upset win over Denver.

--TE Tony Gonzalez, despite getting only three catches for 17 yards in the shutout loss to Carolina, leads all AFC tight ends with 21 receptions this year. He ranks third among all NFL tight ends this year.

INJURY REPORT:

--LT Branden Albert, who missed the Carolina game with a separated shoulder, is doing individual work during the bye week and hopes to be doing full workouts next week in preparation for Tennessee on Oct. 19.

--LB Donnie Edwards is likely to miss another game against Tennessee with an ankle injury.
